My Evs, a smile that I’ll bring with me

A brief reflection before coming back home in Italy

At the beginning of December, it was Monday, I came back in Prilep after some weeks abroad for a training course and a job interview.
I took the bus from Skopje at 6 am and I saw the tired face of the driver I met several times in these months: it’s the bus of a Macedonian company which leaIn the central square of Prilepves Belgrade at 9.30 pm and arrives the day after in Ohrid.
I remember that man because he was kind with me, an evening at the end of May in Belgrade, when I asked him if that bus was the right one to come back in Prilep.
I was clearly a foreigner. He smiled at me saying yes and put my luggage in the boot.

Only one month and half had passed since the beginning of my European Voluntary Service in Macedonia. I was coming back from a training course for all the Evs volunteers in the Balkans.

“Go abroad, if you don’t find a job here”

He’s a “man of the bazaar”. Who doesn’t know, in Prilep, that in the centre of the city you can eat sandwiches and fried potatoes at the Pink Panter fast food?
Maybe what is not known is that Zlatko Momiroski, 41 years old, went to Italy to work when he was really young. He spent there several summers, and he can speak a good Italian.
He talks about his experience for my column “People of Prilep” of Myg, the Magazine for Youth Generation (read the third, the second and the first issues of the magazine and the interviews to Mrs. Stevanoska and Mr.Bidjoski).

Zlatko, when did you go to Italy?
In 1993, I was 21 years old. I had a friend there who already worked, and I joined him.
Where did you live, and what did you do?
I was in Caorle, in the North of Venice. We were pedlars, with a regular permission. We had a stand in the centre of the city and we sold small paintings, made by gypsum, plastic and moulds. We made also bracelets and necklaces.

Creative writing, not only an exercise of style

This is why the last November I participated in the Grundtvig workshop “Improving adult literacy – using successful creative writing approaches with disadvantaged learners”, organised in Huddersfield, England, by the no profit organization Let’s Go (Yorkshire).

Prilep, China, and the globalisation at home

At the end of the last October a delegation of Deyang, the Chinese city with which Prilep is twinned, came here and visited the factories of the area. Maybe, China is interested in them.

The recent history of ChinA traditional dance in Prilepa is an excellent example of what globalisation is today.
The country began in the late 70’s the road that would have brought it to become the second economy in the world, when the leader of the Communist party Deng Xiaoping reformed the Chinese economical system.

MYG – Magazine for Youth Generation n. 3

The third number of MYG, the Magazine for Youth Generation published by my Evs hosting organization Info Front – Prilep, has been published!

I wrote about human rights (Roma people), globalisation, environment, gay people, I interviewed a fast food owner for my column “People of Prilep” and I wrote the diary about my experience in Macedonia.
And then there are a lot of other articles written by my colleagues and friends!

You can read it on line from Issuu, clicking on the window below, or you can download the pdf (and here the second and the first issues)

This is the last issue of MYG I wrote for, my Evs has almost finished.
I hope that the work of Silvia (the other Evs volunteer who designed the layouts) and I, thanks to which Info Front started to publish the magazine, will be useful for the work of other volunteers and next issues!

Education Buffet (rudeness at an Indian dinner)

When I was a child
I was taught to not fill the plate
with food I’ll not eat:
it’s an insult to the people who in the plate
have only the hunger

when I was a child
I was taught to not give orders to other people
if no one allowed me to be a boss

Trinity Leeds

Trinity Leeds
apparently nothing to share
with the holiness

the global streets
wear another Spirit
breathing on these colourful skins
dressed by decorations of a Christmas
nowadays naked of the excitement of wait

A poem from two apples

Inside my circle
is hidden a star
dressed in the colour
of different seasons

the autumn gives it to us
like a present

the origin of our tears
a healthy snack
